Landscape painting is easy once you understand some basic principals.
We'll begin by working with simple shapes to see how atmosphere, lighting and composition affects their edges and focus.
Next, I'll do a few demos to show you how to work with color effectively, then we'll apply these principals to your studies.
When you are ready, we'll begin working on a few simple landscape sketches, moving toward a final piece. Every stage is fun and you'll learn a lot about how to achieve realism with any subject.
As in all my classes, I will bring in original paintings of my own work and other artists, and show you books, do demos, and help you paint as needed.

Above, you can see my maulstick, which I will teach you how to use, and a typical way to work with oil paint to build up a solid area quickly.

Below, a quick wash, thinned with mineral spirits, is a great way to darken the white canvas and to set up a base color for your heavier layers of paint.

Whether you are a beginner or advanced oil painter, using simple shapes and the right amount of color can help you control edges and understand how light affects every object. Its fun and easy to learn.
